More than 2,800 pupils of Mukuru Primary School benefitted from a free eye clinic held at the school in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, Starehe Sub-County, thanks to a partnership between Car & General, Lions Club of Nairobi CarGen and Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital.
Specialists including ophthalmic surgeons and nurses from the Lions SightFirst Hospital provided free consultation, check-ups, diagnosis and medicines to the pupils and glasses were donated to individuals with refractive errors. 317 pupils were diagnosed with eyesight issues with 13 severe cases being referred to the Lions Sight-First Eye Hospital for further assessment.
“This partnership was formed with the aim of reducing preventable blindness in communities who do not have ready access to eye care medical facilities. Thousands of people have benefitted from this countrywide program. We believe that eye sight is vital for everybody and thus as a major part of our CSR projects”, said Gerge Rubiri, the General Manager of Car & General (Trading) Limited.
Speaking at the event, Lion Victor Owuor, the President of the Lions Club of Nairobi Cargen said, “C&G through the Lions Club of Nairobi Cargen is dedicated to making the world a better place to live in by contributing to the well-being of communities. We endeavour to support vulnerable groups in society. ”
